CAROLYN "CALLY" CURTIS
artist • designer
As you'll soon see, much of my work is a very personal reflection of the many multi-cultural experiences I've enjoyed in my life and will always continue to seek.
Growing up in Zimbabwe as the daughter of United Methodist missionaries was a wonderful beginning. Living there until I was 18 opened my eyes and ears and heart to the beauty of lives much different than my own. In that simmering, green-gold country I also fell profoundly in love with things of the Spirit.
My mother, a gifted seamstress and teacher, passed on to me her love of fabrics, design and pattern. By her side, I learned to read and write and draw and in the process absorbed her deep affinity for the imagination.
In college, I chose Art Education as a major, minored in Journalism, and received my B.F.A. from the University of Georgia. However, writing - my other love - was the first to take off, sending me around the U.S. and across the world for the next twenty years.
It's very exciting to at last be giving life to the images that reside in my soul. To those of you who have your own secret dreams and desires, I say "Go for it!" Miracles will happen!

EGYPTASIA MURAL created for The Children's Library of The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, 1024 Ponce de Leon, Atlanta, GA.
The entrance leads into an alcove which houses a children's computer station, play area and TV viewing area. The TV itself rests in a "thicket" filled with flowers, birds and glow-in- the-dark lightning bugs.

WORKSHOP ROTATION MODEL (WoRM):
The Workshop Rotation Model is an exciting, highly successful children's education curriculum based on repetitive, multi-modal learning. Over a 3-5 week period, children rotate through workshops learning the same lesson via a different media technique - art, music, storytelling, drama, games, movies, computers, and so on.
Much of the art at Caladan Studios can be adapted to transform old school rooms into these various "workshops." And new designs are always on the way. Please contact us for more information.
